If you enjoyed Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 sci-fi classic Starship Troopers, chances are you have long had aspirations of joining Johnny Rico’s Mobile Infantry Unit in Starship Troopers. Now it seems the newly established Space Force may be taking inspiration from that movie: uniform renderings released this week by the Pentagon appear strikingly similar to those worn by Rico’s fellow troops in Starship Troopers.
Cosplay (or costume play), is an art form involving creating homemade outfits to replicate popular sci-fi characters from popular modern and classic sci-fi franchises like Comic Con conventions – where thousands of fans dress up each year!
Master craftsman and instructor Bruce Holt runs Forged in Foam workshop business to teach his students to make costumes from scratch. According to him, his students can learn to make shields in two days or an entire Starship Troopers costume over one weekend with stunning results that may even pass as the real thing!
Holt discovered cosplay at his first sci-fi convention, when wearing an EVA foam Borg costume from EVE Enterprises, but had no idea that he was already an early pioneer of it.
